Binay names Avisado as housing asec

VICE President Jejomar Binay announced Friday that he appointed Davao City Councilor Wendel Avisado as an assistant secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).

"Uunahan ko na lang kayo ha para di kayo mabigla. I have assigned Davao City Councilor Wendel Avisado as the assistant secretary of the (HUDCC)," he told delegates of the 1st National Convention of the Organization of Socialized Housing Developers of the Philippines (OSHDP) and HUDCC at Grand Men Seng Hotel.

He did not elaborate.

But in an ambush interview as he was leaving the venue, Binay said the matter was final.

"Yes it's been approved," he said.

Binay and Avisado are partymates under Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan.

Avisado also accompanied Binay during the latter's visit at a function of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines-Davao City Council in August.

The Vice President was the national president of the Boy Scout of the Philippines and is also the regional chair for the Asia Pacific Region, which counts to 60 percent of total population of all boy scouts in the world. Avisado, on the other hand, is the regional head.

Getting a statement from Avisado proved futile.

However, in earlier statements, Avisado said he has not applied for any national position from Binay and that he would not resign from being a councilor "as his mandate is with the people of Davao." (Jade C. Zaldivar)
