Oro, HUDCC tie up for housing project

CAGAYAN de Oro City Government is tying up with the committee on Housing and Urban Development Coordination Council (HUDCC) headed by Vice President Jejomar Binay to develop an affordable and decent socialized housing project in the city.

The housing project would reportedly have a monthly amortization of only P340.

Councilor Alexander Dacer, chair of the City Council committee on urban poor, said Cagayan de Oro City is very fortunate to be chosen as the first beneficiary of Binay's project.

"Vice President Binay personally called Mayor Vicente Emano of the good news as he will allocate millions of pesos to fund his first low-cost housing project in the city," Dacer said.

As counterpart, the city will buy a 50-hectare vacant lot somewhere in Barangay Calaanan, Indahag or Balubal.

Dacer said the beneficiaries of the housing project are those living in crowded shanties, alleys and sidewalks, creeks and rivers banks, and even those who live near the sea.

He said in every unit, they will allocate about 50 to 70 square meters for a typical housing unit equipped with complete drainage system and basic amenities.

"We will identify the number of beneficiaries the soonest as ordered by Mayor Emano, so he will fly to Manila and personally present to Vice President Binay the polished socialized housing project," Dacer said.

He emphasized that a proper screening will follow to identify those beneficiaries who deserve to benefit the housing project. (Nicole J. Managbanag)
