PRIVATIZING the Philippine Amusement and Games Corporation (Pagcor) is a good prospect, but it has to be weighed carefully before the current administration decides if a private corporation should manage it.
This was the message of Representative Bernardo Vergara to President Benigno Aquino III, as he called on the administration to consider Pagcor's donations to indigents before it decides to privatize it or not,
If privatization would entail reduction or a total scrapping of these donations, Vergara said the President would have to rethink his priorities.
"No mistake should be committed. The present administration could [still] turn back [on its intentions]," he said.
Asked about Gabriela's renewed calls for the passage of a law that legalizes divorce, Vergara said he has a strong feeling the proposal will not pass the 15th Congress.
He said if proponents of the Reproductive Health Bill are having a difficult time in having it passed, the divorce bill might suffer the same fate.
Vergara added the proposal is not a priority by the present Congress. (Rimaliza Opiña)
