Ateneo earns finals berth

DARYL Manliguez and Lex Blanco each had 20 points and Francis Escandor had a huge game as the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) overpowered Holy Child School of Davao (HCSD), 93-27, in the semifinals to reach the finals of the Royal Mandaya Hotel Cup 2010 Mini-Basketball Tournament Sunday at the Davao City Recreation Center.

Escandor supported Manliguez and Blanco with 13 points as the Ateneo dribblers led from the start and never looked back. Esbin Inliwan added 12 points and Jethro had 11 for Ateneo.

With the victory, Ateneo earned the right to meet University of Immaculate Concepcion (UIC) in the championship showdown on August 28.

UIC stunned Do¤a Pilar Learing Center in the other semifinal match, 56-51, to book the first finals berth. Judd Louis Omaña led the UIC attack with a game-high 28 points.

Ateneo had earlier beaten UIC, 65-40, in the elimination phase.

The champion team in the tournament organized by Glenn Escandor will receive P15,000 while the second and third placers will get P10,000 and P5,000, respectively.

The event is also supported by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, Vice Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte and Councilor Paolo Duterte.
