Senate hearing on GOCC officials' fat paychecks set Tuesday (8:18 a.m.)

THE Senate invited former Economic Planning Secretary and Social Security System (SSS) chief Romulo Neri and other government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) officials to attend a hearing on Tuesday.

Senate finance committee chairman Franklin Drilon said the hearing will look into the fat paychecks and excessive allowances of the GOCC officials.

Neri and 10 other officials have reportedly received P206 million bonuses as board of directors of the Philex mining.

The senator said the SSS commissioners' salary should be turned over to the SSS fund and should be reported to the Commission on Audit.

Aside from Neri, the Senate also summoned SSS chair Thelmo Cunanan, officials of Clark Development Corp., Development Bank of the Philippines, Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, and other GOCCs for the August 24 hearing to explain their excessive paychecks. (Sunnex)
