Navy asked to explain unrecorded 31 SUVs (8:38 a.m.)

THE Commission on Audit (COA) has asked the Philippine Navy to explain the missing and unrecorded 31 sports utility vehicles (SUVs) donated to its headquarters last year.

COA said the Navy failed to record in its book of assets the 31 of the 50 SUVs donated by the Seoul Motors Trading and Transport Corporation.

COA discovered that only 19 units were recorded in the Philippine Navy book and that there were 31 unrecorded units worth more than P25 million.

According to the COA report submitted to Rear Admiral Danilo Cortez, acting Flag-Officer-in-Command (AFOIC) of the Philippine Navy, former Navy chief vice admiral Ferdinand Golez received the 50 SUVs that were given to the Navy headquarters from May 8 to December 20 last year.

The SUV units include 28 Hyundai Santa Fe, two Hyundai Tucson, and two Hyundai Starex Van.

The commission recommended to require the chief accountant of the Navy headquarters to record in their book of accounts the 31 missing units. (Sunnex)
