Iloilo to declare 'state of imminent danger' due to dengue

THE Iloilo City Council will hold a special session Wednesday to accommodate the request of Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog to declare the city under a state of imminent danger due to threats of dengue.

Mabilog cited in his request that 10 people were already killed and hundreds others have suffered from the disease caused by a day-biting mosquito called Aedis Egypti.

He said there is an urgent need to act decisively to stop the menace brought about by diseases-carrying mosquitoes.

The declaration will allow the City Government the use of its calamity fund to help the victims, he added. The mayor said the city needs P1 million from its calamity fund.

He said the City Health Office is currently updating its monitoring of the disease in the barangays.

Meanwhile, a Dengue Summit will be held on August 27 at the city social hall to be participated by all village officials, city health workers, and volunteers to discuss the issues surrounding the disease. (LCP)
