Public works department removes billboards with patron's names

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Northern Mindanao has started removing billboards and streamers of infrastructure projects with attached pictures of politicians.

Marichu Lago, DPWH-Northern Mindanao spokesperson, said they have started removing and replacing billboards inside the regional office compound in Barangay Bulua and intend to replace all other billboards with pictures of politicians all throughout the region.

In a brief interview over the phone, Lago said she cannot yet rate the percentage as to the accomplishment report of the operation, claiming it has just started.

She also failed to specify when the operation started and when it would end, as "there is something that (my superior) wants me to finish right away."

When Sun.Star first tried to interview her over the phone, Lago refused to grant even a few minutes as again, "there is something that (her superior) wants me to finish right away."

"Please call me again after 10 minutes," Lago said when this paper tried to get her comment.

But subsequent calls were left unanswered.

Many would have wanted to know about the details of the operation.

Earlier, President Benigno Aquino III directed all government agencies to refrain from putting the pictures of politicians in all government projects, saying the projects belong to the people since the money used in the projects are the "people's taxes." (Loui S. Maliza)
