Ateneo de Davao rules 2th Kadayawan bootfest

THE Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) cornered three titles in the Mayor Inday Sara and Rody Duterte 25th Kadayawan Sportsfest Festival at the Tionko football grounds on Saturday.

Ateneo emerged champion in the boys 16-under event while Digos and Davao City National High School (DCNHS) placed second and third, respectively, in the 19-team field.

The Ateneo boys 14-under team ruled its category over Central Mindanao University (CMU) A-Kidz and Holy Child School of Davao, which finished second and third.

The Ateneo Lady Knights governed the ladies division where the Philippine Women's College (PWC) placed second and University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao Alumnae finished third.

A special event was included in this year's festivities, the Football For Good category. The participants are preparing for the Football For Good tournament to be held in La Salle Greenhills in December.

To enhance the skill of the Davao City contingent, beginners from other teams/clubs were included. This will also provide a meaningful experience for the participants to interact with each other and put down any barriers like social, economic, cultural, and religion which only sports can provide.

In the Football for Good (FFG) category, the Zonta-Muslim captured the boys title over DFA Black Knights and Brgy. 22-C "A" while Tambayan B bested Lady Knights and Tambayan United for the girls crown.

Davao Football Association (DFA) general secretary Erwin Protacio, in a statement Monday, said the Football for Good category was a special event.

"We included it in this year's festival in preparation for the FFG Tournament set in La Salle Greenhills in December. It is a tournament where participants from all walks of life interact with each other without social, economic, cultural and religious barriers," Protacio said.

The tournament will resume on Saturday featuring the boys 12 years old and under, boys 10-under, boys girls eight-under, boys eight-under, boys and girls six-under and elementary girls categories.

The men's open first division, second division and 35-above category will be held on Sunday.

The football festival is being held in cooperation with the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office, Ateneo de Davao United Football Club, Davao Association of Tour Operators and CWTS class of UP Mindanao. (MLSA)
