MORE BPO jobs will be available to Cebuanos with the opening of Azpired BPO, a new outsourcing company that will focus on technical support services.
Officials are looking at hiring 220 employees by end of 2015 and some 2,000 total employees by end of 2016, including the planned expansion to Cagayan de Oro City.
Azpired is a sister company of eBusiness BPO, which holds offices at the Cebu IT Tower 1 in Cebu Business Park (CBP).
Scott Johnson, the firm’s chief executive officer, said they decided to set up Azpired to split the services being offered by eBusiness BPO, which handled both customer service and technical support services.
“Technical support services require a different skill set, and with the growing demand for this type of service, we decided to open Azpired,” said Johnson in an interview during the company’s opening last Saturday.
Azpired occupies the entire 16th floor of Cebu IT Tower 2 in Cebu Business Park (CBP). With its planned expansion, they are looking at occupying three more floors within the year.
According to Johnson, Azpired will handle high value services and serve clients who speak other languages.
“We aim to progress as one of the top providers of multi-lingual BPO services here. We will initially cater to Thai and Spanish tech support services, although the bulk of the services are still in English,” said Johnson. “We will continue to work with different languages, given the fact that our clients have diverse customers all over the world.”
Although it’s quite a challenge, Johnson noted the company will heavily invest in training their employees to learn new languages to become globally competitive.
He said the multi-lingual call center outsourcing service is a flourishing sector Cebu can be known for because of its large pool of talent that is language-proficient.
“I’m confident we will not have difficulty in hiring talents for this type of services because for one, Filipinos are highly-trainable and quick learners,” he said.
To ensure a high-quality workforce, Almira Absin, the company’s vice-president for operations, said they maintain a healthy relationship with the academe and are open to accept on-the-job trainings for graduating students. The firm, she said also offers free BPO training with allowance.
“The opening of Azpired is a very positive development for Cebu’s ICT-BPM industry. It reflects a continued confidence in the Cebuano talent and the absorptive capacity of Cebu. It also reflects the attractiveness and the value of locating in Cebu,” said Jun Sa-a, executive director of Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology (Cedfit).
The contact center industry remained the biggest employment generator in the IT-BPM industry last year, with total headcount of 685,000 employees followed by 187,000 in the back office or knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) industry, 86,000 in the ITO, and 87,000 in the healthcare segment.
In terms of revenues, the contact center remained the cash cow of the industry, with $11.7 billion in revenues followed by back office/KPO ($3.44 billion); ITO ($2 billion) and $1 billion in healthcare.
The IT-BPM expects to generate 1.23 million jobs and $21.8 billion in revenues this year.
