THE Cebu Sandigan Foundation (CSF), a constituent chapter of the National Sandigan Foundation, had its beginnings 17 years ago and I am proud to say that my mother, the late Ever B. Garcia, was its charter president and remained president for many, many years.

It is now ably headed by president Lita Ortiz who continues to lead the group of kind-hearted ladies in charitable work at Mother Teresa’s Centers, Asilo dela Milagrosa, non-formal or ALS classes in coordination with DepEd, and livelihood training programs in depressed barangays. The spiritual director is Cebu Archbishop Ricardo J. Cardinal Vidal who continues to inspire the group. In his message during the simple 17th anniversary celebration held at the Cebu Archbishop’s residence, he expressed gratitude and appreciation for CSF’s works of charity, all for the greater glory of God.

For its 21st anniversary, Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort gathered friends and partners in the industry for dinner under the stars by the resort’s beautiful white beach. Party hosts were the Alegrado family led by its patriarch, Consul General of Austria Arcadio “Dodong” Alegrado (chairman of the Almont group of companies) and wife Marle. Just as welcoming were the couple’s daughters, charming June and the ever effervescent Julie A. Vergara (with Vic and son Joaquin by her side).

Updates on President Benigno Aquino III's presidency

Another frontliner was resort GM Rhyz Buac who traced the resort’s transformation from a modest 32-room affair to the 158-room establishment with world-class facilities that it has become.

It was recognition time during the program. Loyal employees and top producing industry partners were given plaques of appreciation.

The buffet spread was something to rave about, with a giant tuna (as in really huge) as centerpiece—tuna sashimi, anyone? The groaning food booths offered all kinds of yummies: appetizers, salads, lechon, roast calf, different seafood, chicken favorites, fruits, ice cream, sinful desserts, and more. For entertainment, there were the resort’s regular dancers giving their best. Yes, it was a real grand celebration for Maribago Blue Water Beach Rsort.

Another anniversary happening was the Moon Over Moet affair celebrating the sixth anniversary of Shangri-La’s Cowrie Cove.

It was a romantic moonlit night at the seaside resto with lots of bubbly Moet & Chandon. Indeed, a night to remember for the merrymakers and Shangri-la’s communications angels Mildred Amon and Rica Rellon and their team.

It is a regular happening for Korean Air to gather its top producers for an appreciation dinner other than the yearly recognition. This time around the venue was Marriott Hotel where amiable GM Paul Han and his girl Friday Ann Momongan gave plaques of appreciation to its top 10 travel agents. Leading the pack were Travelways (Alan Carvajal); Grand Holidays (Cherry Callelero); and Global Link (Jeanneh Teh).
