BAGUIO taekwondo jins struck medals in their respective categories in the recently concluded 2010 MVP Smart Best of the Best Taekwondo championship at the Mall of Asia recently.
John Astrologio of UFC taekwondo gym won a gold while teammates Cherubin Primo Tinipac and Joshua Ira Dizon won bronze in the one day tournament joined by close to 500 jins from around the country.
Also winning in the tournament backed by telecom giant Smart are jins from Bravehearts gym courtesy of Kendrix Galian who carted away the silver while Keyya David also brought home the bronze.
Competitors from 12 regions, including members of the Philippine Team and gold medalists in major national tae kwon do events, saw action in the day long meet organized by the Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) and supported by PLDT.
"It was a tough competition, but the good thing here is that the Baguio jins were able to win medals in their respective events," said PTA Cordillera chapter president Melvin Morte.
Baguio sent 38 jins coming from various tae kwon do dojangs. They saw action at the Music Hall of the San Miguel By The Bay at SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
Two time Olympians Antoinette Rivero and Tshomlee Go and Asian Taekwondo Championship silver medalist Japoy Lizardo were among those pitting their skills against top winners from the other national tournaments in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, the UAAP, NCAA, AFP-PNP Olympics and all PTA Metro Manila and regional competitions.
