Shaba’s milestone

A GRANDER and more exciting Sacred Heart Alumni Basketball Association (Shaba) 2010 season will unfold this Sunday at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu gym in Canduman, Mandaue City.

Twelve teams, led by last year’s champion Gaisano Capital Savers Choice, will slug it out in a single-round robin tournament.

Shaba will be celebrating its 15th year, a milestone for a school-alumni based tournament.

It is also the oldest alumni-based league in Cebu and its success prompted other schools to put up its own alumni-leagues.

“The opening ceremony will be exceptional because we will be giving recognition to the first school varsities of Sacred Heart and the priests who are instrumental in the development of sports at the school,” the said Shaba president Reagan King during the Scoop Cebu forum at Baseline Restaurant yesterday.

King was joined by Shaba officers and team representatives Kenneth Lim, the Sacred Heart School Alumni Association president Meynard Ortiga, Marcelino Co, Giovanni Lim, Richard Lee, Erickson Ong and Joey Gaisano.

Closer

Shaba believes that through basketball and other sport events they plan to hold, the alumni will get closer to the school.

Aside from the Gaisano Capital/Savers Choice, other teams are the Gaisano Capital, Goldberry Suites/Uratex Foam, Japfa, Shell, A + Struttures, Mobelhaus, RDAK/Edcon, San Remegio Beach Club, Nature’s Spring, White Gold Club and Marcelino Co.

Games will be held ever Thursday and Sunday.
