RP urged to finish probe before going to China (4:14 p.m.)

MANILA -- The Chinese government has required the Aquino administration of a full fact-finding report before going to China and Hong Kong.

“We don’t consider it as a pressure for us,” Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said in response to the demands, which stemmed from Monday’s hostage-taking that killed eight tourists.

Lacierda noted that they have, in fact, committed to the Chinese government to have a swift investigation into the case.

The high-level delegation composed of Lacierda, Vice President Jejomar Binay, and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo was supposed to fly to China last Wednesday but their flight was cancelled with no disclosed reason.

“Kasi talagang may understanding na talagang yung purpose ng pagpunta ng team ay para i-submit yung fact-finding report,” Lacierda explained. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
