Rookie cops complete training

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union -- Fifty eight new members of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) joins the police unit, which is at the forefront in the anti-insurgency campaign.

The rookie policemen recently finished the 45-day rigid training in Internal Security Operation (ISO) Unit Enhancement Training.

The graduates are composed of three females and 55 males, all with the rank of Police Officer 1. They are assigned at the 1st Regional Public Safety Battalion (1st RPSB).

Their graduation rites were held at the PRO1 headquarters here with PRO1 Director Orlando Mabutas as guest of honor and speaker.

Mabutas said that after finishing the rigid and tough specialized training, the graduates are expected to be at the forefront of the anti-insurgency initiatives in the region.

“Kayo ang mangunguna kontra sa mga gumagamit ng dahas para ibagsak ang ating gobyerno. I therefore call on you to put to good use your newly-acquired knowledge and skills. Your training had given you the distinct advantage over those who threaten our society. Apply what you have learned and make them feel they have no place in Region 1,” he stated.

He also stressed that these new policemen should strive to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

“Always adhere to the proper conduct expected of a police officer, keeping in mind that we are protectors of the weak, defenders of the innocent, and advocates of human rights,” he remarked.

Awards of merit were conferred to PO1 Diane Roussel Dela Cruz, PO1 Jessebelle Malamion and PO1 Joelry Ofiana for placing first, second and third, respectively, in the academics category.

On the other hand, PO1 Gerald Ginez was first place in the non-academic category while PO1 Ryan de Guzman was adjudged as best in physical fitness (Tarzan awardee of the class).

A certificate of appreciation was also awarded to the personnel of Philippine Navy (Naval Forces Northern Luzon) headed by Lieutenant Junior Grade Marx Nikolai Villamora for their support in the conduct of the Amphibious Waterborne Operations module of the ISO training.

Meanwhile, 1st RPSB Battalion Commander Tito Dacpano said the ISO graduates will be assigned to the line companies of 1st RPSB in the provinces of Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte. (LCMY/Sunnex)
