Sangki town hall attacked

AN EXPLOSION rocked the Municipal Hall of Datu Abdullah Sangki in Maguindanao province on Sunday night.

Based on reports gathered from the Maguindanao Police Provincial Office, armed men fired three rocket propelled grenades (RPG) and two M79 grenade launchers at the soon to be completed Municipal Hall around 11:40 p.m. Sunday.

Residents in the area fled their homes for fear of getting caught in the crossfire. No one died or was injured in the explosion, but the walls of the Municipal Hall were wrecked.

The armed group immediately fled upon the arrival of responding military and police troops.

Army's 603rd Brigade commander Colonel Ernesto Aradanas believes the men are members of Civilian Volunteers Organization and part of the private armed groups in Maguindanao.

It can be recalled that mayor Mohammad Sangki was the first witness to testify against the Ampatuans in relation to the Maguindanao massacre last November 23, 2009 where 57 people died.

More military troops have been deployed to Datu Abdullah Sangki and Ampatuan to prevent further attacks by the armed groups. (Edgardo Fuerzas)
