THE City Council of Bacolod approved last August 25, 2010 the establishment of a health desk for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

The resolution was authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, chairman of the Committee on Laws, Ordinances and Good Government, while Councilors Em Legaspi Ang and Carl Lopez co-authored the measure.

The establishment of a health desk for persons with disabilities is pursuant to the Department of Interior and Local Government Memorandum Circular 2009-180, Series Of 2009.

Majority of PWDs are indigent members of the society, thus, they expect much help from the local government because they cannot afford to pay in hospitals.

There are also instances where some hospitals in the city do not provide immediate attention and priority to PWDs who are seeking medical attention.

"This is one way that we can help PWDs in terms of providing them immediate medical attention from the City Government of Bacolod," Distrito said.
