UC survives CIT-U

THE University of Cebu Webmasters held off the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 83-75, to fortify their hold of second place in the collegiate division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc.

Chester Curso helped CIT-U take control of the game in the second period after a seesaw battle in the opening quarter.

Curso scored 16 of his game-high 33 points and help CIT-U gain momentum in the second.

The Wildcats also had their biggest lead at 47-38 with over seven minutes to go in the third.

That only serveD to wake UC.

Robinson Mohammad sank two triples to key a 12-2 run that got UC on top, 50-49. It was their first taste of the lead since 16-15 early in the second period.

Curso gave the lead back to CIT-U with an undergoal stab but UC answered with a stinging 17-1 rally for a 67-52 lead, with 44.2 seconds remaining in the third.

CIT-U managed one final fight and a 13-0 run got the Wildcats to within four, 75-71, with 2:35 to go.

But UC managed to hang on and outscored CIT 8-4 in the final moments to improve its standing to 6-1, second to the University of the Visayas.

CIT dropped to 3-4.

UC got 19 points from Junemar Fajardo, while Kirst Edward Pao Mohammad and Gerald Ampoon combined for 40.

Meanwhile, the University of San Jose-Recoletos beat the University of Southern Philippines, 80-66.
