Cardinals thwart Navigators in five set match

UNIVERSITY of Baguio Cardinals had to endure five sets to stay unbeaten in the men's volleyball competition of the ongoing 24th Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League.

The Cardinals had to buck a two set deficit in their match against Saint Louis University Navigators, 19-25, 24-26, 25-15, 25-21, 15-8 at the UC gymnasium Sunday afternoon as it guns for another final appearance this year.

UB, last year's runner up, had to endure an hour and 45 minutes to notch its fifth straight victory in as many contests.

Defending champion University of the Cordilleras, meanwhile, needed one hour and 11 minutes to dispatch Cordillera Career Development College in four sets, 25-21, 25-10, 17-25, 25-14 bidding for another title retention this year in the men's volleyball.

Benguet State University also edged out Philippine Military Academy in four sets, 25-16, 23-25, 26-24, 25-19, also in the men's volleyball competition in one hour and 24 minutes.

University of the Philippines Baguio, on the other hand, downed Pines City Colleges in four sets, 25-12, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23 in one hour and 27 minutes.

While their male counterpart remains unbeaten, the Lady Cardinals suffered their first setback in the tournament after bowing out to steadier Saint Louis University in three sets, 25-16, 26-24, 25-22 in one hour and 14 minutes.

The Lady Cardinals could have won the second set as they were up by four, 21-24 when SLU nailed five consecutive points to have a two set advantage over UB also during Sunday's games at the UC gym.

Women's defending champion UC Lady Jaguars walloped CCDC Lady Admirals in three sets, 25-12, 25-17, 25-11 to stay unbeaten after five games.

The BSU Lady Wild Cats also pulled a win against winless PMA Lady Cavaliers in three straight sets, 25-7, 25-13, 25-8.
