Tile pushers vie for honors in Baguio Day tilt

SOME 50 tile pushers from Baguio and Benguet will compete in the Baguio Day Scrabble Tournament at the Highland Villa Hotel and Restaurant.

The two day tournament is open to all students and professionals aged 18 years old and above with or without Philippine scrabble ratings.

Two divisions will be played in the tournament organized by the Baguio Benguet Word Builders Club with huge cash prizes and trophies awaiting winners which will be staged on Sept. 11 and 12.

Registration fee for the open division, which is expected to lure top scrabblers based here in Baguio City and Benguet, will be at P500 with trophies and cash prizes awaiting the top three finishers in the straight king of the hill, under the World English Scrabble Players Association (Wespa) rules of play.

Special prizes also await the high bingo, high score and the highest losing game in the competition while the last placers in both divisions will receive the sausage award.

The tournament also aims to promote the mental sporting event and at the same time discover potential talents who will have the chance to represent Baguio or even the country as well for future scrabble tournaments.

The youth division, on the other hand, is expected to lure players coming from the top collegiate and high school teams within the region which will cover ten games with a registration fee of P300.

The youth division will also be a qualifier for the representative of Baguio for the upcoming World Youth Championships in December.

The winner in the division will receive P4,000 while the runners up gets P2,500 and P1,500.
