Luspian supports guv's critique of road

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet - Mankayan Mayor Materno Luspian said the Cervates-Mankayan road project is very important to the municipality dubbing it as a "Life Project."

Luspian still hopes glitches in work by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) with consultant firm, Katahira and Engineers International and contractor, China Harbour Engineering Company will be cleared.

Luspian said "we have to be vigilant in this project."

The mayor said the performance of the contractors and consultants will be monitored to ensure output beneficial to the people of the town.

Luspian attended the Infrastructure and Monitoring and Advisory Group (IMAG) last week and was one with Gov. Nestor Fongwan's in expressing disappointment over the poor workmanship of the road.

Luspian said "that is why we are having this meeting, to be able to monitor their work."

Reports by the contractor and the consultant showed there were cracks in barangay Tabio were covered with an epoxy seal.

While both said the practice was normal and safe it still raised apprehension from both Luspian and Fongwan.

Similar cracks were seen in Barangays Poblacion, Sapid and Guinaoang.

The project cost is almost P700 million spanning a total road length 31.302 kilometers with a net length of 25.401 kilometers( Ma. Elena Catajan)
