Mayor welcomes appointment of Avisado to HUDCC

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte welcomed the appointment of Councilor Wendel Avisado as the deputy secretary general of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).

This came after Avisado last announced last week his resignation as City Councilor in accepting his appointment. President Benigno Aquino III appointed him to the position August 17 through the recommendation of Vice President Jejomar Binay, chairman of HUDCC.

Duterte said she respects Avisado's choice.

"It's his personal decision where he wants to bring his service," she said in vernacular Monday at Central 911 office along Ponciano St.

The mayor said she welcomes that a Dabawenyo is currently an assistant secretary for housing. "Of course we welcome that," she said.

Asked on what would be the city mayor's power in the circumstance that an official from the City Council has vacated his post, Duterte said the appointing power would be on the President and would not intervene on who would be chosen to replace Avisado.

"Naa sa Presidente ang appointing power. Ang ka-partido gyud niya ang mag-recommend. Gikan gyud sa ilaha kay ilang party man nila ang nawadan (The President has the appointing power. Partido Demokratiko Pilipino Lakas-Bayan [PDP-Laban] would be the one to recommend since it's their party who lost a representative," Duterte said.

"(Although Avisado is a member of) Hugpong sa Katawhang Lungsod, which is an aggrupation of different political parties like sila mayor Liberal Party, ang katong nawalaan gyud ug representation, which is ang PDP-Laban, ang magbuot kung kinsa ang mu-replace (like Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is under Liberal Party, the party which lost a representative to the City Council would be the one to decide who would replace Avisado)," she said.

The mayor added that she is not affected by Avisado's resignation.

"Actually wala nako na nahunahunaan ang iyahang resignation kay dili man apektado akong trabaho sa iyaha (I have not given much thought on Avisado's resignation because my work is not affected by him)," Duterte said. (Jade C. Zaldivar)
