5.8-magnitude quake hits Babuyan Islands

A MAGNITUDE-5.8 earthquake rocked Babuyan Islands in northern Luzon at 9:38 a.m. Monday, a radio report said.

Renato Solidum, director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), said the epicenter of the quake was at 19 kilometers west of Babuyan Islands.

The quake was felt at intensity four in Calayan Island and intensity three was recorded in Camalaniugan town in the province of Cagayan.

Solidum said the quake was tectonic in origin and is too weak to cause a tsunami. (Sunnex)
