RP pugs off to Finland

MANILA -- Four boxers will leave the country on Tuesday to participate in the prestigious Tammer Cup in Finland as part of their preparations for the 16th Asian Games slated next month.

Ed Picson, executive director of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP), said getting exposure to a European-style boxing augured well for the fighters, who will be facing heavyweights like Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in the quadrennial meet.

Boxers Victorio and Rey Saludar, Charly Suarez, and Delfin Boholst will don the Philippine colors for the event, which has attracted 23 participating countries, mostly European.

Picson said prior to their overseas stint, the boxers were able to witness the closed-door training session of pound-for-pound king and Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao in Baguio City over the weekend. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
