Cyclone may enter RP on Saturday

THE state weather bureau said a Low Pressure Area (LPA) that may develop into a cyclone may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday.

According to a radio report, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was spotted at 160 kilometers northeast of Saipan.

It has maximum sustained winds of 35 kilometers per hour (kph) and is moving west south west at 19 kph.

Pagasa said if the cyclone, which may become as powerful as Super Typhoon Juan, enters the Philippine territory, it will be codenamed "Katring".

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that death toll from Super Typhoon Juan as of 9 p.m. Wednesday rose to 16. (Sunnex)
