Palace won’t stop toll hike imposition

MANILA -- Malacanang will not stop the implementation of the toll fee increase at South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), a Palace official said Friday.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said they will abide by the decision of the Supreme Court lifting the temporary restraining order (TRO) on imposition of toll hike.

“If it is immediately executory then it is a Supreme Court decision that you have to abide by,” he stressed.

He noted that they will leave the decision to the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) on the exact amount of increase.

The TRB will most likely meet sometime next week to discuss the toll rates.

With the looming increase in toll fees, several transport groups warned of filing a petition for fare hike. There are also threats of massive strike against the toll fee increase.

Lacierda meatime appealed to public not to be “agitated” and don’t make rush decisions.

“Let us wait and see wag po tayong maging masyadong agitated. I known the concerns are there I know that may takot po tayong lahat na tataas at magdodomino effect. Pero tingnan po natin ang nangyari sa NLEX noon malaki ang naging improvement at benepisyo sa taong bayan.” (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
