Manila City official fired for dishonesty

MANILA -- The Office of the Ombudsman ordered the dismissal of a Manila City official for not disclosing ownership of a house in Pangasinan.

Saturnino Disu, assistant department head at the Manila Department of Engineering and Public Works, was fired from government service after being found guilty of dishonesty.

In a 10-page decision, the Office of the Ombudsman said Disu lied on his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).

Government employees are required to declare all their property and assets on the Saln so agencies like the Office of the Ombudsman can check for unexplained wealth.

But Disu declared under oath on his SALN from 1999 to 2005 that his only real property was a house and lot in Bacoor, Cavite. (Jonathan de Santos/Sunnex)
