Manila voters complain of list mix-up

MANILA -- Voters of Barangay 666 and 667, this city, complained Monday that their names were not on the voters' list at their polling precincts.

This is despite of a “master list” compiled by barangay officials and given to volunteers of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV).

Tess, who declined to give her surname, said the master list put her in precinct 103.

Election officers at the precinct, however, said she was not on their list of registered voters.

She said she was finally able to find her name on the list for precinct 99, but not without difficulty. “Nakipag-away ako doon. Bakit naman hindi magi-init ulo ko?”

Poll watchers at the precincts directed confused voters to the PPCRV. But the PPCRV said all they could do was consult the master list.

Jouseff Macol, a PPCRV volunteer, said there were no Comelec officials at the Araullo High School polling center.

“Misplaced” voters instead were told to bring their concerns to the Manila Comelec office in Arroceros.

Macol said around 30 voters already complained of not being on the voters' list of their polling precincts.

Benjamin Sanchez, a poll watcher, said they cannot help voters since the lists were prepared at the Arroceros office. (Jonathan de Santos/Sunnex)
