Car brand to boost Cebu presence

VOLKSWAGEN Cebu said the local market can expect a more prominent presence of the brand after its long rest in the Philippine automotive industry.

Since it opened its Cebu dealership in September 2014 along A. Soriano Ave. in the North Reclamation Area, Volkswagen Cebu branch manager Renato R. Dumaraos said it has sold less than 50 cars over a nine-month period.

“We’re slowly picking up. We don’t expect to sell in volumes yet. What Cebu needs now is awareness,” Dumaraos said in an interview at the sidelines of the Ayala Lifestyle Fair press conference at the Cebu City Marriott Hotel yesterday.

Next week, Volkswagen Cebu will participate in the fair, which will run from July 30 to Aug. 2 at the Ayala Activity Center. The Cebu dealership will also be putting up a billboard near Ayala Mall and will participate in more upcoming promotional events.

Volkswagen Philippines is one of the automotive ventures of the Ayala Group alongside Isuzu and Honda.

At present, Volkswagen Cebu has an inventory of seven models--Polo, Touran, Beetle, Golf, Touareg, Tiguan, and Jetta. Prices start at P980,000 and can go as high as P4.3 million.

Participting companies include Ayala companies like Globe Telecom, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Isuzu, Cebu City Marriott Hotel, and Ayala Land Premier among many others.
