Bulusan Volcano explodes anew

BULUSAN Volcano in Sorsogon province again spewed ash Sunday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum in a television interview said the steam-generated ash explosion was observed around 7:30 a.m. that reached two kilometers above the summit.

The official, however, said the explosion was just a normal activity of the volcano and was not considered strong but was stronger compared to the previous explosions.

The official said the agency has already expected several ash explosions due to the abnormal activities of the volcano.

Solidum clarified major eruption in the volcano is still far despite the seismic activities saying there is no sign yet of a rising magma in the volcano's crater based on their monitoring signals.

Families near the volcano were evacuated.

Alert level 1 is still up in the volcano.

The agency again warned the people to remain calm, prepare for a possible ash fall and lahar flows and keep away from the four-kilometer permanent danger zone around Bulusan's summit.

Bulusan is one of the country's 23 active volcanoes. It is located in Sorsogon province, about 380 kilometers southeast of Manila.

Bulusan, located just 70 kilometers southeast of Mayon Volcano, is the fourth most active volcano in the Philippines after Mayon, Taal in Batangas and Pinatubo in Zambales. (Sunnex)
