New toll rates take effect

MANILA -- New toll rates took effect Saturday at the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and Subic Freeport Expressway (SFEX).

Alma Tuazon, South Luzon Tollways spokesman, said in a radio interview that they began implementing their new toll rates early Saturday.

She said that the Toll Regulations Board earlier approved a P3.02 per kilometer toll adjustment but they just implemented P2.68 rate per kilometer.

Class 1 vehicles that include cars and jeepneys traveling from Alabang to Calamba will pay P76.

Class 2 vehicles that include light trucks and small buses will be charged P152, while Class 3 vehicles like trucks and buses will pay P238.

Marlene Ochoa, vice president for corporate communications of NLEX concessionaire Manila North Tollways Corp. also said in a separate radio interview Saturday that they also implemented its 11 percent or P2.38 per kilometer toll adjustment for NLEX at 1 a.m. Saturday.

Ochoa assured motorists that the additional toll fees would redound to their benefit saying they have implemented a number of improvements on the road system, including installation of closed circuit television cameras.

The Tollways Management Corp. has also improved the condition of the expressways by removing potholes and cracks. (Sunnex)
