Troops recover bombs in Abu Sayyaf camp

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Government troops have recovered explosives and paraphernalia used in making improvised bombs in the hinterlands of Basilan province, a top military official said Saturday.

Special Operation Task Force-Basilan commander Brigadier General Nicanor Dolojan said the bombs and other "war materiel" were recovered around 1 p.m. Friday in an abandoned Abu Sayyaf camp in Macalang village, Al-Barka, Basilan.

Dolojan said the Army Scout Ranger troops were pursuing Abu Sayyaf bandit leader Nur Hassan Jamiri when they found an abandoned camp of the Abu Sayyaf bandits in the village of Macalang.

Jamiri was wounded in a clash between troops and the bandits last Wednesday in Barangay Macalang. (Bong Garcia)
