‘Asia’s Next Top Model’ runner-up at Abreeza Mall

“ASIA'S Next Top Model” cycle 3 runner-up Monika Sta. Maria met with her Dabawenyo fans and local fashion enthusiasts, as she graced the monthly Fashion Forum at Abreeza Mall on July 23.

The statuesque beauty, who made every Filipino proud with her stint in the said international modelling reality show, shared her thoughts about a number of things, from fashion to modelling and more.

When asked about the most unforgettable experience she had during the competition, the former La Salle volleyball player cited the final runway walk.

“It was really the final runway... It was something I was dreaming about tapos hindi pa ako nakuha noong una,” she quipped.

It can be recalled that Monika first joined the second cycle but she was not lucky enough to make it to finals.

Although she admitted that losing was a heartbreaking experience, it never dampened her spirit. In fact, it even pushed her further. And in her second attempt, despite not getting the title, the ever humble model took it as a challenge (Monika lost to Indonesian Ayu Gani in the third cycle), for her to pursue a modeling career in the international scene, such as in London and Italy.

“Of course, I’m sad about it. Pero title lang naman ‘yan. Kung gusto kong mag-London, kaya ko pa rin naman ‘yon even without a title,” she said.

She added that success and the attainment of personal dreams actually lie on “your hands” and not on anybody else’s.

When some fans got interested on how she defines beauty and how she maintains her well-toned and sculpted physique, Monika intellectually gave out her answers.

“If you find happiness in small things, you will feel beautiful,” the Philippine pride in the modeling industry shared.

Meanwhile, when it comes to her beauty regimen, she had this to say: “Be active lang talaga. Medyo addict din ako sa pagdyi-gym. Push ko talaga ang pagdyi-gym.”

On dressing up, Monika doesn’t believe that one has to always keep up with what is trendy.

“Don’t try too hard. I think the most important thing is you’re comfortable and confident with your own style,” she emphasized.

As to what has changed since she snatched the runner-up position, the gorgeous model was quick to mention the overwhelming support of every Filipino fan.

In fact, her Dabawenyo fans immediately trooped to the forum venue when they learned, through Monika’s Instagram and Abreeza Mall, that she was visiting the city.

“Ang nagbago talaga ay ang suporta ng mga tao. I never expected the overwhelming support,” she said.

When the Davao lifestyle writers got the chance to talk to her, she was asked if she has plans of joining a beauty pageant, considering that she is a complete package. Well, those who are really hoping that she is joining a prestigious beauty tilt one day may get disappointed of her response.

According to Monika, it is not her priority this time. For her, it would be best if she will just focus on modeling. But who knows, she might change her mind eventually, right?
