PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III stressed in his last State of the Nation Address (Sona) Monday the passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), which he hopes will be passed by Congress before his term ends.
"May mga batas na nais kong ilapit upang maipasa sa loob ng kasalukuyang Kongreso. Pangunahin dito ang Bangsamoro Basic Law," he said Monday.
The draft BBL is still being debated in the plenary of the House of Representatives, while it has yet to pass the committee level in the Senate.
Aquino said the BBL has to be passed to give the people in Mindanao lasting peace, as he showed Monday a video of people in conflict areas in southern Philippines along with a footage showing the abused the Marcos regime.
"How many more of our countrymen will have to perish before we realize that the status quo of Muslim Mindanao must change?" he said in Filipino.
The Moro Islamic Liberation Front chair Al Haj Murad Ebrahim earlier said that he hopes Aquino will reiterate his commitment to pass the BBL during his Sona.
“I hope he could enlighten more those who are still opposing the BBL,” Murad said last Saturday. (Sunnex)
