Aquino jokes he’ll have Alvarez arrested

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III joked during his State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday, July 27, that he will have sixth district Representative Mercedes Alvarez arrested if she will again have her photograph taken while lying in the middle of a highway in southern Negros.

“Kay Congresswoman Alvarez naman, na ilang beses na nga pong nag-posing nang nakahiga sa mga kalsadang nakumpleto natin: Pasensya na, Chedeng, pero sa susunod na humiga ka sa kalsada, ipapahuli na kita: Obstruction of traffic ang violation ninyo,” Aquino quipped.

Alvarez caught the President’s attention earlier this year when she posted on her social media accounts pictures of her lying in the newly-paved 49.4-kilometer Dancalan-Candoni-Damutan Valley road, amounting to P450 million, and the 34.7-kilometer highway from Candoni town to Sipalay City, costing P711 million.

Alvarez said she is elated that she was featured in the President's Sona.

She added that a team went to her district and took videos of her, and the road projects, all amounting to almost P2 billion.

Alvarez had then posted on her Twitter account: “I am very very happy to report that the gravel roads along the national highway from Dancalan to Tabu to Talacdan to Caningay, Candoni are now concreted! From Dancalan proper, we reached Candoni for 40 minutes! Salamat salamat DPWH and President Noy!”
