20,000 Manila-bound motorists expected at NLEX

THE North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) management is expecting more than 20,000 motorists to return to Metro Manila on Sunday following their Holy Week vacation in Central and Northern Luzon.

NLEx media specialist Francis Dagohoy said many travelers have already hit the road on Sunday afternoon. Normal traffic flow in NLEx "might be experienced" on Monday, he added.

Dagohoy assured that all the ticket booths, particularly along Bocaue interchange in Bulacan, are open to cater to all travelers and to avoid traffic build-up.

Philippine National Police spokesperson Generoso Cerbo Jr., meanwhile, urged travelers to bring extra patience in light of the expected heavy traffic going to the capital.

For its part, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) allowed public utility buses to travel to areas hit by Tropical Depression Chedeng (Maysak) since it is expected to be downgraded into a low pressure area in 12 to 24 hours.

But the threat from Chedeng, which crossed the Sierra Madre mountain range after hitting Isabela on Sunday morning, is still not over.

"Maging maingat pa rin po dahil kung ito nga po pumasok itong itinuturo kanina na moderate to occasionally heavy na pag-ulan lalo na dito sa silangang bahagi ng Northern Luzon ay posible pa po, pwede pa pong makapagdulot ng baha o landslide," NDRRMC Director Alexander Pama said. (Sunnex)
