LPA intensifies into tropical depression

A LOW Pressure Area east of the Visayas has intensified into a tropical depression, the weather bureau said Monday.

In its 2 a.m. Monday bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the tropical depression "Amang" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 700 kilometers East of Borongan, Eastern Samar with maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center.

It is forecast to move northeast at 15 kph.

Pagasa said Bicol Region and the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and isolated thunderstorms.

It added, "Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough."

Elsewhere, the Pagasa said winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to northwest with slight to moderate seas.

The agency advised fishing boats and other small seacrafts not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves. (Sunnex)
