Inflation stays unchanged at 4.3 percent

MANILA — Inflation in the country has remained little changed at 4.3 percent from the previous month.

The National Statistics Office said Tuesday that inflation in March was at the same rate recorded in February as higher costs of services were offset by slower rates in clothing, fuel, electricity and water.

Inflation in March last year was 4.4 percent. Excluding food and energy items, core inflation eased to 3.4 percent in March from 3.6 percent in February.

Concern over inflationary pressures prompted the central bank last month to raise its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points, the first rate adjustment since 2009. (AP)
