Ombud wants 2 doctors charged for caesarian operation

MANILA -- Two government doctors from Oriental Mindoro have been ordered charged for reckless imprudence over a botched caesarian operation.

The Office of the Ombudsman has recommended charges against Dr. Ma. Cristina Gonzales and Dr. Rodolfo Avelino of the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital in Calapan City over a complaint filed by a patient they operated on in 2005.

According to complainant Anabel Abao-Genabe, her skin turned yellow and her body became swollen after the operation.

She also developed rectal bleeding, and her bowels leaked out of her abdominal wounds.

“Had respondents been very careful and diligent in performing the caesarian operation, taking into consideration their employment and occupation, degree of intelligence, complainant would not have experienced the pain she underwent and [would not have] suffered severe complications,” the Office of the Ombudsman ruled.
