Deputy Ombud for Luzon resigns

DEPUTY Ombudsman for Luzon Mark Jalandoni has resigned from his post after complaints against him were filed at the Office of the President.

Assistant Ombudsman Jose de Jesus confirmed Jalandoni's resignation as he read Jalandoni's statement saying he quitted from his post to spare the Ombudsman from further controversy stemming from the three complaints filed against him for usurpation of official functions and authority.

“The charges leveled against me are baseless. However, in order to spare the Office of the Ombudsman from further controversy, I have tendered my irrevocable resignation,” Jalandoni's statement said.

On March 21, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez over corruption allegations during the term of former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Arroyo. (Sunnex)
