THE Philippine National Police went on full alert starting at 6 a.m. Wednesday for the Holy Week.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Nicanor Bartolome said some 5,000 policemen will be deployed in the entire metropolis to ensure the safety of the public this coming Holy Week.

Bartolome said he has already given the order to the five district directors under his command (Manila, Southern, Northern, Eastern and Quezon City) to cancel the leave and day-off of their personnel so that there would be enough warm bodies at hand ready to respond to any emergencies.

Aside from the 5,000 policemen, Bartolome said the NCRPO will also deploy some 350 bus marshals and the Motorized Anti-Crime Operatives (MASCO) to secure bus terminals, the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT), airports, seaports, churches and other places where people tend to congregate during the Lenten season.

Police personnel will also be deployed to conduct inspection on bus terminals in coordination with private security guards employed by the bus management. (Sunnex)
