Tadian wants faster boundary resolution

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Tadian Mayor Anthony Wooden is backing the calls to settle boundary woes.

Wooden backed a resolution by local councilmen for a speedy and judicious settlement of political boundary disputes between neighbouring areas to avoid “differences as well as to settle already perceived animosities among our tribes.”

In a resolution by the local council, aldermen are requesting members of the respective councils of the Mountain Province and Mankayan town in Benguet for settlement of land woes affecting their areas.

“The municipality of Tadian, Mountain Province and Mankayan has engaged in a long-time dispute of over sitios Am- Am, Paykek, Sayapot, Agaki and Mogao,” the resolution noted.

Tadian officials said they are opposing the inclusion of these sitios in a House Bill authored by Benguet Representative Ronnie Cosalan titled “An Act Subdividing barangay Balili in the municipality of Mankayan into two separate and independent barangays to be known as North Balili and Balili South.”

Tadian dads said the sitios are under the jurisdiction of the town.

“It is our solid stand that the sitios are in the competent territorial jurisdiction of the Mountain Province particularly the municipality of Tadian since time immemorial,” the resolution said.

“The claim of Mankayan over these sitios is without legal basis, it is more imaginary rather than real considering that the provincial government of the Mountain Province and the municipal government of Tadian has been constant key players to the development of these sitios which can be substantiated by strong of sturdy evidence,” it added.

Tadian officials stated the long time operation of the Sayapot Elementary School under the division of the Mountain Province, the establishment of the Sayapot Multi – Purpose Cooperative, which has a permanent building and compound; the establishment of the Tadian Post Harvest Facility at Sito Sayapot, the establishment of the Am – Am National High School as well as the protection of watersheds, provincial maintenance and infrastructure projects in the area as their claim to the area.
