MANILA -- Senior citizens should get a 30-percent discount on their real property taxes, a member of Congress said.
Caloocan City Representative Oscar Malapitan has filed a bill at the House of Representatives to give the elderly special property tax rates.
He said most senior citizens, already in retirement, have enough trouble meeting their daily needs as it is.
“Almost 90 percent of our senior citizens are living below the poverty threshold set of P10,000 a month and would not be able to pay the almost confiscatory real property taxes,” Malapitan, vice chairman of the House committee on Appropriations said. (Jonathan de Santos/Sunnex)
