Arroyo statements vs. Aquino acts of 'sourgraping,' Palace official says

MANILA -- A Malacanang official on Monday said former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's recent statements against the Aquino administration is just an act of "sourgraping".

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda denied claims of Mrs. Arroyo that the country has a vacuum of leadership under President Benigno Aquino III.

"I think the statement of President Arroyo is sourgraping," said Lacierda. "She believes that she is politically being harassed because of the recent turn of events with respect to her son."

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) recently filed tax evasion cases against Arroyo's son Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo and wife Angela.

Lacierda said Malacanang does not agree with Arroyo on "vacuum of leadership," stressing that members of Aquino's official family are addressing every issue coming their way.

"We are exploring options which are not “papogi” lamang and that’s why we want to make sure that the solutions we are going to offer to the public are something we can live with and will not in the long term affect further our nation," he said.

Lacierda also denied "demonizing" Mrs. Arroyo noting that the Aquino administration is just finding the truth on the controversies it inherited from the past administration.

"We let axe fall where it should. There is no personal vendetta against the former President," he said. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
