Lacson: Travel documents I used to come home are in order

MANILA -- Senator Panfilo Lacson, who went into hiding after an arrest warrant was issued against him, said that travel documents that he used to come home are in order and that his critics should stop bringing it up.

Previously, the Department of Foreign Affairs denied issuing the travel document Lacson used. They said the serial number on the document belonged to one that had not yet been released to any Philippine consulate or embassy.

But Lacson said that when he returned to the country after disappearing for more than a year, he had already been cleared of charges in connection with the Dacer-Corbito murders in 2000. He told reporters at a press forum that there was no need for him to use a fake document.

"As far as I know, and as far as I’m concerned, I came face to face with the consul who issued my travel documents so I know it’s authentic," he said.

He added he did not understand the "big fuss" over where he got his travel document and where he hid to evade a warrant for his arrest.(Jonathan de Santos/Sunnex)
