THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed Thursday tax evasion complaints against four gold traders before the Department of Justice for failing to file quarterly and annual income tax returns.

Respondents were Felonia Caluag of Bulacan, Ronald Castro also of Bulacan, Diomedita Canonigo of Parañaque City, and Sylvia Chua Cantoria of Caloocan City.

The BIR said the four had gold transactions with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas for the years 2005 to 2009.

The agency said Caluag's tax deficiency amounted to P865.15 million, Castro's was P1.56 billion, Canonigo's was P1.65 billion, and Cantoria's was P683.41 million. (Sunnex)
