Santos, Robredo won't run for vice president in 2016

BATANGAS Governor Vilma Santos-Recto and Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo confirmed on Tuesday that they are not interested to run for vice president in next year's polls.

Reports said both officials are being eyed as possible running mate of Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II, who was named standard-bearer of the administration Liberal Party (LP) for the 2016 elections last Friday.

Santos said she is not interested to run for higher office while Robredo said she has yet to receive a formal offer from the ruling party.

"Hindi ako handa at hindi din ako interesado. Batangas lang muna ang gusto kong paglingkuran sa ngayon," said Santos at a gathering of local leaders and political allies of Roxas in San Juan City.

Santos, who is in her third term as governor, said she is also not considering a run for the Senate as she is more interested in running for a seat in the House of Representative.

"Mas interesado akong maging congresswoman, at least hindi ako malalayo sa Batangas, sila pa din ang pagsisilbihan ko," said Santos, a movie actress and wife of Senator Ralph Recto.

Robredo, who debuted in politics in 2013, said she is not ready for the vice presidency.

"Wala namang offer at wala namang kumakausap. Pero I think, I'm not ready for the position. I'm still new in politics. Dito nga lang sa pagiging congresswoman ay medyo nangangapa pa ako, at marami akong gustong gawin," said Robredo who went into politics after the death of her husband, former Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, in 2012.

"Nagpapasalamat ako na may nag-iisip para sa akin, pero bago pa lang ako, hindi pa ako nakaka break-in," she added.

Robredo said she may either seek reelection or join the LP senatorial slate. (Sunnex)
