PERSONNEL of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) have thwarted an attempt to smuggle a kitchen knife to a detained suspected Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) member at a local detention facility.
Chief Inspector Julius Arro, warden of the BJMP-administered Zamboanga City Reformatory Center, said the knife was intercepted around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the entrance of the detention facility located at Varela Street in Zone II village.
Arro said the knife was confiscated from the possession of Nur-ain Salam, wife of Jamil Ajilul, a suspected ASG member.
Arro said Nur-ain was carrying a box full of mangosteen intended for her husband when she arrived at the facility.
The knife, which was placed beneath the fruits, was discovered when the duty BJMP personnel at the main gate of the detention facility thoroughly inspected the box.
Jamil was among the detained suspected ASG member involved in the escape attempt last January 19.
Nur-ain was turned over to the local police for the filing of appropriate charges.
