Globe releases advisory on service disruption in Manila

MANILA—Ayala-led Globe Telecom, Inc. informed its subscribers that it will interrupt its cellphone signals in Manila on Monday, deferring to the government's call of shutting down services due to perceived threats to the Black Nazarene procession.

"In the interest of national security, please be informed that mobile subscribers of all telcos in select areas of Manila will experience loss of signal due to security measures being conducted by the government in line with the feast of Black Nazarene,” Globe, the country’s second biggest telco firm after Smart Communications, said in a text message.

The government earlier called on telecommunication providers to thwart any terrorist attack during the religious procession, which is expected to last from 10 to 12 hours. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
