No longer tiny

IT WAS Maundy Thursday and many establishments were closed. It was thus a relief to learn that one place where you are assured of really good food is open… but no longer in its tiny space at the corner of Mabini and F. Torres Streets because Tiny Kitchen has already moved to a bigger place.

It’s still along F. Torres, but this time, in the midst of all the eating bustle. Tiny Kitchen has taken over the dining space once occupied by Buona Terra in that white building at the entrance driveway of Holiday Spa and Fitness Center.

Now for those who were regulars of Tiny Kitchen when it was still tiny, one warning, they no longer serve gourmet tuyo pasta. Darn.

But, they have a very long list that crawls along the wall above the kitchen counter. And the customers seem not to mind the missing pasta; it was a full house by the time we left on what was supposed to be a quiet Maundy Thursday.

We wanted to try as many, but there were just three of us. Thus, we got gambas, pasta fidaeus (much like pansit with a seafood mix and distinct color of achuete), callos, and paella negra. And yes, we couldn’t finish them all, thus, we were very thankful that Imee’s order of a chicken dish was inadvertently left out. (Whew!)

We were forewarned though by no less than resto owner Donna, when she checked whether we have ordered enough for three.

“That is already a lot,” she said. We shrugged her warning off, to our dismay later. There was not even a tiny room for dessert, and the cakes and pastries of Tiny Kitchen are to die for. The yema cake looked so good and rich, it could easily make the grade as porn.

Next time.

But still smarting from finding out that the gourmet tuyo pasta was no longer in their menu, I brought home a bottle of their gourmet tuyo instead. Happy. And so were the diver friends who partook of it for lunch the following day.

I have to hie back soon for dessert. In the meantime, I have to burn off all those calories.
